A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory committee voted 25 to 10 to reject the agency's proposed plan to prevent inappropriate prescribing, misuse, and abuse of extended-release opioid painkillers, saying the plan lacks the teeth to stem the "public health crisis" of opioid addiction, overdose, and death.

Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that they have filed a health care fraud charge against a doctor accused of faking research for a dozen years in published studies that suggested after-surgery benefits from painkillers including Vioxx and Celebrex.

Nothing is more powerful in a democracy than fed up citizens lawfully yanking public officials out of their jobs. Considering all the frustration and anger about government that is too big, expensive, corrupt and dysfunctional, it is wise to consider how much better American democracy would be if citizens could recall members of Congress, the President and even Supreme Court Justices. In a world moving at faster and faster speeds why wait for the usual ways to fix government, especially when none of them seem to work?

When the Administration's proposal was released in June of last year, it claimed that details and ideas about the future of these two government-sponsored enterprises would be released and discussed around the time of the president's fiscal 2011 budget proposal. Yet, when the Administration released its budget proposal, it neglected, or deferred, depending on the point of view, to directly address any such issues.

It is the goal of the federal government that every American citizen is given an equal opportunity to achieve his goals in life. Hence, the government is obliged to provide financial aid to those who are eligible for such benefits, considering the overall picture the federal government has, in developing the sector in which the financial aid is sought.
